Dr Peter Scott brings a wealth of cardiac expertise to Canberra's heart health services. As Director of Cardiology at Canberra Hospital and founder of Core Cardiology, he leads initiatives to improve cardiac care access and patient outcomes across the ACT.
In his free time, Dr Scott loves sport and is a keen road cyclist, rower and occasional golfer. He enjoys engaging in outdoor sports with his wife and 8-year-old daughter.
In 2019, Dr Scott established Core Cardiology, which initially operated from Calvary Bruce Private Hospital. The practice grew rapidly in response to Canberra's need for comprehensive cardiac care, expanding to our current Macquarie location. Under Dr Scott's leadership, Core Cardiology has developed into a complete cardiac care centre, bringing together leading specialists and investing in advanced cardiac equipment.
Dr Scott trained at leading cardiac centres in the UK and Australia, including the renowned King’s College Hospital in London and the Austin Hospital in Melbourne. His extensive experience includes managing large cardiac departments and developing innovative patient care programs. Before moving to Canberra in 2018, he directed a large UK cardiac catheterisation laboratory, serving a population of 850,000 people.
Since joining Canberra's medical community, Dr Scott has focused on making cardiac care more accessible. At Calvary Public Hospital Bruce (now North Canberra Hospital), he established dedicated public cardiology clinics, introduced rapid-access chest pain clinics, and developed new cardiac testing services. Now at the Canberra Hospital, he continues to lead improvements in patient care and reduce waiting times for cardiac procedures.
Dr Scott has performed thousands of cardiac catheterisation procedures, primarily using the trans-radial approach (through the wrist). He is experienced in advanced cardiac imaging and interventional techniques including IVUS, OCT, FFR, and Rotablation. His practice combines technical expertise with a strong focus on patient-centred care and staff education. Dr Scott is accredited to perform PFO (patent foramen ovale) closures for stroke patients, which consist of closing a small hole in the heart.
